It’s amazing how quickly BitTorrent has become one of the major download formats. It’s fast, equitable, efficient and nowadays harnesses a community of over 70 million users.
This is post however is about BitTorrent’s official software client that allows you to quickly download high-quality digital content such as video, music, and games and is available in over 20 languages.
It features, among other things, dynamic bandwidth management, which allows you to download content without disrupting web browsing, email, or other applications. Even though this software was built by the same team that invented BitTorrent it doesn’t necessarily make it better than other BitTorrent clients freely available (such as Azureus or μTorrent) at least feature-wise. Compare and judge according to your needs and download habits.
BitTorrent’s client pretty much concise info & download page can be visited through this link.

A very good Gnutella search and download file-sharing program for Windows. Fully supporting the G2 network, one of it’s most interesting features is that it diverges from the usual interface with tabs separating different parts of the program, and instead uses sub-windows so that users can observe different aspects of the program simultaneously (watching downloads progress while chatting with a friend, or performing an unlimited number of searches at the same time).
Visit the Gnucleus site for more info and downloads.

μTorrent comes in at a tiny (less than 170 KB) package. It’s fast, lean on resources (allowing you to use the computer as if it weren’t there at all), easy to use and requires no installation. Its formidable feature list includes trackerless downloads, multiple simultaneous downloads, multi-scrape, UPnP and it even offers an inbuilt RSS reader. It is skinnable and localized (39 supported languages and counting) and being enhanced and developed so fast and constantly that occasional bugs are quickly addressed and fixed.
Learn more about μTorrent at the official site. While there you can also check out the first public beta of µTorrent’s WebUI which lets you control μTorrent from anywhere via web.

Azureus November 2, 2006

Java based and therefore available for multiple platforms & 40 languages, Azureus is feature rich and supports embedded tracker so you can host your own torrents, UPnP, a distributed decentralized database for decentralized torrents and DHT (Distributed Hash Table) which distributes indexing responsibility across multiple clients rather than relying on a single web-based tracker plus many other features too numerous to mention.
The project is very well supported and there are a lot of plug-ins available including, a competent RSS feed scanner, “Status Mailer” which notifies you by mail when a download finishes, remote control of Azureus through the Swing Web Interface or the HTML Web Interface and more. One downside is that the Java code will eat up your CPU cycles so you need a reasonably fast PC.
You can find out more and/or download it here.

- Solaris
